The Protoss Colossus is definitely one of the most unique units shown in the Starcraft 2 Developer’s video. With their ability to sidestep over various terrain features, as well as their powerful beam, it would seem that the Protoss Colossus is a replacement for the reaver in the original Starcraft. While the reaver’s usage was limited due to its slow speed, and poor scarab AI, the colossus looks like it would be an excellent unit for hit and run attacks. However, like the reaver I suspect it will be very vulnerable to aerial attacks. The Colossus’s beam also has a splash ability, allowing it to quickly take out massed smaller units like the zergling or marine.
