Starcraft 2 Release Date

It looks like the legions of fans will have to wait until next year at the earliest for a possible release of one of the most anticipated games of all time, Starcraft 2.

In his MSN interview, Blizzard’s VP of game design Rob Pardo addresses the issue of Starcraft 2’s release date:

It’s a secret! I can give you the old Blizzard mantra of: “It’ll ship when it’s ready,” but it’s something that historically, we’ve learned to keep release dates really close to the vest. I think all game developers are extremely optimistic, and we used to give optimistic dates and we’d disappoint our fans when we didn’t hit them. So now, I think we’ve just gotten more gun shy. The only thing I can give you [that’s] concrete is it’s not going to be this year. Some people were hoping, because of how advanced the game looks, that we’d have it out by Christmas, but that’s definitely not happening.

Rob also quashed rumors of a possible fourth race, saying:”No fourth race. We talked a lot about it. We ultimately decided we wanted to focus on the three races we had.”

In another Gamespot interview, Chris Sigaty said that Blizzard usually takes “three and a half or four years to finish a game” and that Starcraft 2 would enter alpha testing later in the year. There have been recent rumors that attendees of the exclusive Blizzcon would be given Starcraft 2 beta keys. Anyone know how to land a spot? =)

Why are there no zerg Buiilding or units descriptions? I haven’t seen it on any website and they don’t discuss it.

i dunno really but oh my god this game is got to be freaking good… but really i been hearing that it will come at 2009 thats as long as it can get because i cant freaking wait.If the announce it they have to be close if they not… they better have not even told us about it!!1 i mean really i got me so concentrated on it i cant keep my mind off of it. its crazy… i dont want to know a game is comming out but i wanna know that its out soon/

Look i think that Blizzard wants to make as much money as possible and create as much drama as possible too. They are going to release it on the tenth annaversity of Starcraft. Which is April 09 2008. fucking Blizzard they should release just for me. [those bitchs]

The game is following where Brood Wars last left off! Come on u cant get it better than that. New look beter game play with a hell of a new look zerg. Dig the Ultralisk being able to borrow. But 2009…. Gonna be old theN!

Ah, watching old starcraft videos on youtube ( YellOw beating some dude ), seeing someone comment about Starcraft 2 coming out, seeing the awesome, digging up and installing my old and rusty starcraft cd ( seriously, i found rust on it ). i’m anticipating this very much :)

Nope, blizzard havent set any release date yet, they are too busy building diablo 3 :(
